Released every autumn since 2014—on supermarket shelves, at contemporary art fairs, or online—The Laughing Cow® Collector’s Edition Boxes form a collection of conceptual artworks created by major artists of our time. They challenge the very notion of what constitutes a work of art, exploring all its dimensions: use, circulation, value, and preservation. Since 2014, twelve artists have taken on the task of confronting their artistic practice with the century-old brand.
A book-object coordinated by Laurent Fièvet, director of Lab’Bel, the artistic laboratory of the Bel Group, Boxed Laughter features around one hundred illustrations and is sealed with a pull-tab echoing the iconic round boxes. It revisits all these collaborations and, through texts written by various contributors (edition curators, museum conservators, economists, art historians, collectors), offers a deeper understanding of the stakes of a project now widely celebrated by collectors.
