These two large scale pieces by the young German photographer Robert Voit (b. 1969 in Munich) are extracts from the New Trees series. Following on in the documentary tradition of the Dusseldorf School of Photography, started by Bernd and Hilla Becher, Voit makes his works identifiable through their systematic use of colour and their large scale. Since 2003, Robert Voit has been travelling the world, from the US to Korea, South Africa to Italy, Great Britain to Portugal, in an attempt to carry out a detailed inventory of fake trees, each with varied uses. With a certain degree of affection and a gentle irony, he leads the viewer to question their relationship to appearances and artificiality, as well as contemporary transformations of the landscape.
