Trouvère/Redox: A Performance by Solo Chaud and Octave Courtin

Lab’Bel is proud to support Trouvère/Redox: a mobile, sonic, and edible performance designed by Solo Chaud and Octave Courtin. The event will be held at Les Jardiniers in Montrouge on March 28th, as part of the exhibition Ersatz.

The title evokes both the Trouvères of the Middle Ages—itinerant figures of sung poetry—and the chemical phenomenon of redox (reduction-oxidation), which signifies exchange, transformation, and the transition from one state to another. The work takes the form of an improbable construction—part installation, part living apparatus—that wanders through the spaces of Les Jardiniers.

Throughout the journey and the tasting experience, the structure transforms, deconstructs, and recomposes itself, activated by the gestures, bodies, and interactions of the audience. Carried by a soundscape of contemporary bagpipes crafted by Octave Courtin, the performance blends ritual, play, and communal sharing. Trouvère/Redox offers an experience where eating, listening, and moving are part of the same metamorphic process, turning food into a medium for transmission, circulation, and collective transformation.

Presented within the framework of Ersatz—which explores the motif of food in contemporary creation—the performance serves as a sensory chapter that completes the exhibition’s narrative: a moment where art is consumed with the eyes, the ears, and the fingers!

About the Artists

Solo.Chaud (Louis Danjou) Born in 1984 in Lille, Louis Danjou is a self-taught artist based in Paris at Ateliers Wonder. After a decade of creative wandering across South America, he developed Solo.chaud, a singular project where culinary heritage, DIY techniques, and artistic research converge. Solo.chaud transcends the boundaries between art, cooking, and sensory experience. His works are not merely meals but true “edible landscapes,” where each dish becomes a dreamlike narrative and a gustatory journey. Between sculpture, installation, and performance, Danjou orchestrates a culinary alchemy that defies natural laws, reinvents matter, and summons ritual.

Octave Courtin Octave Courtin makes matter resonate through musical instruments that he builds and performs, presented as both sculptures and installations. By combining industrial materials with traditional luthiery, he tests the plasticity of sound by making the air vibrations that define it tangible. Each instrument—activated solo or in collaboration with musicians or choreographers—requires a specific physical engagement that highlights the materiality of the acoustic effect, whether it be a wall of inflatable balloons or a dance for bagpipes and rubble bags. His sober, refined aesthetic is dedicated to a “concrete musicality,” revealed in infinite nuances. (Text by Florian Gaité)
